HE is used to grilling politicians but next month Jeremy Paxman will turn his ire on a classic Shakespeare villian.

The former Newsnight presenter, who lives in Stonor, is returning to the stage for a modern twist on Macbeth.

Paxman, 64, will play the head juror in the Shakespeare Schools Festivalâ??s Trial of Macbeth, which also stars former Doctor Who star Christopher Eccleston.

The play is set in a courtroom and follows the trial of Macbeth for King Duncanâ??s murder.

Real High Court judges will examine the case and lawyers will make up the rest of the jury.

Last year, Paxman performed at the Edinburgh Festival, where his one-man public affairs show received rave reviews.

The University Challenge host, who quit Newsnight in April, is well-known for his aggressive interviewing technique, so perhaps Macbeth should be concerned.

Trial of Macbeth will be staged at the Noël Coward Theatre in London on Sunday, March 8. For more information, visit www.ssf.uk.com
