Could you help out at Kenton?

THE hunt is on for volunteers to help keep Henley’s historic Kenton Theatre running smoothly.

THE hunt is on for volunteers to help keep Henley’s historic Kenton Theatre running smoothly.

The theatre depends on its team of volunteers but there are always more needed.

To give people an idea of what is involved there is an open morning being held at the theatre in New Street on Saturday, October 31 from 11am to 1pm.

The new volunteers manager, Linda Wallace, will be there to explain how to sign up and the time ands responsibilities involved.

Key roles to be filled include a front of house manager, people to work on the coffee and drinks bar, in the box office, and as ushers.

Linda herself was director of policy and professional services at the British Dental Association until her retirement in 2013.

She said: “We need volunteers to make the theatre work in the way it does. We are very keen to get a front of house manager and people to work in the box office. Commitment is open-ended and varies but of course a regular commitment is more rewarding for the volunteer.

“For front of house manager it is not a regular commitment in terms of set days and times as it of course depends on when there are performances. It is a very important role, vital to the running of the theatre — it cannot function without them.

“It does mean that they are first in and last out. On the plus side, they meet everyone.”
