Kenton's Acorn show full of Eastern promise

HENLEY?S Acorn Music Theatre Company returns to the Kenton Theatre on Wednesday (January 6) with a sumptuous new production of The Arabian Nights.

HENLEY?S Acorn Music Theatre Company returns to the Kenton Theatre on Wednesday (January 6) with a sumptuous new production of The Arabian Nights.

A colourful tale of long sultry nights studded with exciting stories of robbers, sailors, fishermen, genies, moody camels and a flying horse, the show directed by Gail Rosier will be full of eastern promise.

For 1,001 nights, the beautiful and clever Scheherazade would tell a thrilling tale to her husband, the sultan, always stopping at sunrise at the most exciting part.

Curious to hear the story?s ending, the sultan would delay her execution to the following day, only for Scheherazade to complete and start another story ? thus saving herself from suffering the same fate as the Sultan?s previous, unfortunate and considerably less clever wives.

A spokesman for the Acorn Music Theatre Company said: ?This imaginative and energetic production uses original music, dynamic drama and extraordinary puppets to weave Scheherazade?s stories around you. With dynamic direction by Gail Rosier and beautiful set and lighting design by Hen Coleman and Anya Fox, this is a production not to be missed.?

Acorn trustee Sarah Bell added: ?We are a registered charity and after covering the cost of hiring the theatre, all proceeds will go to Cancer Research UK.?

The show runs from Wednesday to Saturday, January 9. All performances are at 7.30pm ? except for the Saturday matinée at 2.30pm ? and last for 125 minutes with an interval.

Tickets are priced £12 for adults and £8 for children and students.
