HENLEY Junior Triathlon Club stole the show at the last major junior regional triathlon competition of the season, at Woburn Abbey, near Milton Keynes, on Sunday.
In all 22 junior Henley athletes competed in two categories — nine to 12 and 13 to 16, with distances of 100m swim, 3km bike and 1km run for U12s, and 300m swim, 10km bike and 2.5km run for U16s.
The swim was open-water in the estate lake and after grappling up the slip way, athletes ran barefoot up a long incline to the transition zone.
The estate private roads created the perfect challenge for the cycle leg, with tight corners needing careful bike handling and short, steep descents and climbs. The final run leg circumvented the lake, ending with a punishing 10 per cent gradient to the finish.
Tri Henley took three podium positions, with other club members finishing fourth, fifth, sixth, seven, ninth and 10th.
Ben Doyle won the boys’ 13 to 16 category in a time of 38 minutes, 9 seconds with Scott Barnett second in 38.29.
Ollie Doyle took runners-up spot in the nine to 12 category in 16 minutes, 57 seconds.
In the afternoon two of the club coaches competed in the adult event, with Will Edmondson finishing fourth in the 40 to 45 age category for Olympic distance, and Michael Warner fifth in the 50 to 54 age category for sprint distance.
