Henley duo shine on the Alps

HENLEY-BASED triathlon team Athlete Service has enjoyed a good summer competition with several strong performances.

Rob Griffiths and Laurence Plant travelled to Ascona in Switzerland to compete in the Swissman extreme triathlon, which comprised a 3.8km swim, 180km bike leg over the Swiss Alps and a marathon, which concluded with a mountain top finish, in all some 6,000m of climbing.

The duo were the first two British competitors home after 14 hours and 19 minutes managing to finish together as Griffiths caught Plant with 8km of the run to go.

Later in the season team members travelled to Switzerland again for the Zurich Ironman, the race covering the same distance as the Ascona race but with far less climbing.

Plant finished with a time of 10 hours 16 minutes followed by local triathlon coach Sophie Whitworth who won her age group in a time of 10 hours 38 minutes.
