Debutant Barnett leads the way at Eton Dorney

HENLEY Junior Triathlon Club competed in its most significant triathlon competition of the season at Eton

HENLEY Junior Triathlon Club competed in its most significant triathlon competition of the season at Eton Dorney.

As the only compulsory event for entry to the Inter-Regional Championships, and with a fast bike circuit around the 2012 Olympic rowing lake, the event is a national competition attracting the strongest triathlon clubs in the country.

The placings of athletes in the high performance drafting races for U16 and U14, and in the U12 races, correspond to their effective standing in Great Britain as a whole.

Tri Henley fielded 10 boys in the U12 category in two large waves totalling 187 competitors. Ben Doyle came an impressive 13th while Archie Griggs was 22nd. There were also other notable performances from Ed Bindoff in swim and Adam Hunt, Justus Larter and Felix Butterworth in run.

Saoirse McClure-Fisher in the U14 girls’ high performance drafting race finished 10th in a field of 48, coming out of the swim first and demonstrating perfectly how to draft within a fast moving peloton.

In the standard U14 races, the newest member of Tri Henley Isobel Barnett came first of 56 competitors, winning in a time that would have placed her 31st in the high performance race. In the U16 high performance drafting race Daisy Butterworth recorded the third fastest swim.
