Tri-Henley athlete in regional trials

TRI-HENLEY’S Saoirse McClure Fisher has made it through the Triathlon England regional trials and been invited

TRI-HENLEY’S Saoirse McClure Fisher has made it through the Triathlon England regional trials and been invited to join the regional academy.

Last Sunday at Oxford University sports centre’s Roger Bannister Stadium, the fastest triathletes in the South Central region competed for limited places in the regional academy.

The academy is the first step on the performance pathway to the elite levels of triathlon in England and GB.

At the Oxford event, McClure Fisher scored 329 points from the combined swim and run assessment. She completed her 200m swim in 2 minutes 18 seconds and a 1,500m run in 5 minutes 23 seconds. This placed her top of all athletes in her TriStar 3 category.

Fellow club member Isobel Barnett, who is new to triathlon, just missed out on entry to the academy this time around.

The performance at Oxford crowns an impressive season of triathlon for McClure Fisher. At 13 years of age, she is in the younger of the two-year bracket for TriStar 3 athlete.

McClure Fisher came second in the regional championships for the 2015 season, and competed at the national championships earlier this month at Mallory Park and also timed the fastest swim leg at the high-performance Eton Dorney triathlon in July.
