GLORIOUS weather has so far favoured Henley Royal Regatta, even if to date there have been far too many comfortable victories. The final two days will provide international clashes in all nine of the events open to overseas challengers and, favoured by a continuance of the warm and sunny conditions, Saturday could well attract a near-record crowd.

Gay Green, 19, of Ivy Gate, Remenham Hill, was featured as the cover girl in last week’s London Life magazine. For five months she has worked as a secretary on the magazine and when the editor decided to feature London secretaries they chose Gay to be photographed for the front page. Gay was also interviewed about her life as a secretary. Apparently she had very little trouble in finding the job of her choice.

A new play area in Sonning Common was opened on Saturday by Dr Peter Hemphill. Under an overcast sky, Mrs Pennison, chairman of the parish council, told how three years ago Rev Alan Nin called a meeting with a view to obtaining small pieces of land to place suitable play apparatus. Due to the generosity of a developer, approximately one acre of land on the new Pye estate was offered at less than half price.
