THE Mayor and Mayoress, Alderman and Mrs A R B Hobbs, were among 8,000 guests at the first garden party of the season held at Buckingham Palace on Thursday of last week. The Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh were the hosts, and a number of the guests were presented to them. Also present as guests at the party were Mr LG Pontin, the manager of the Henley branch of the Thames Valley Trustee Savings Bank, and Mrs Pontin.

At Henley Royal Regatta the St John Ambulance Brigade staffed the usual first aid points, aggregating 441-and-a-half hours’ duty and treating 101 casualties. The division were able to improve their services this year by means of an ambulance which they hired from the High Wycombe Division, and also by means of a field telephone.

The clerk of Shiplake Parish Council was instructed to write to the highway authority in connection with a number of matters including the placing of stones on verges in Mill Road, Lower Shiplake, the erection of road signs on land at the war memorial, the cutting of grass on the vision splays at Plowden Way, and the formation of an access to the Henley-Reading Road, near Tower House.
