THE first steps towards Henley twinning with Lauderdale-by-the-sea in America have been taken. Mayor Barry Wood has written to the mayor of the Florida town to tell him he is backing the move. The original idea came from singer Vince Hill, who has visited the satellite town of Fort Lauderdale a number of times and has been made an honorary citizen in recognition of the charity concerts he has performed there.

A cricketer has bowled only his second ever hat-trick — 30 years after his first. Tom Fort, from Sonning Common, was playing for Twyford and Ruscombe Cricket Club when he took three wickets in consecutive balls. It is the first time the 55-year-old author has taken a hat-trick as a spin bowler — he changed from a fast bowler when he realised it was “too much like hard work”.

Police raced to Hart Street in Henley in the early hours of Sunday after receiving reports that up to 30 people were involved in a mass brawl. When they arrived they discovered that most of the gang had disappeared. Road signs had been hurled around, one man had been hit by a car and another man was found unconscious after being robbed. An ambulance was dispatched but no one needed hospital treatment.
