PART of Townlands Hospital may have to be privatised if it is to be saved, according to those battling to save it. Campaigners are pushing hard to find a solution but fear that fighting for an NHS-only hospital in the current climate could be damaging and result in Townlands closing. They still hope to secure a rebuild and are drawing up a list of services they want housed in it.

The path to the top job for Henley’s deputy mayor looked rocky when a fellow councillor stood against him, splitting the mayoral vote. At Tuesday’s council meeting, current mayor Ian Reissmann nominated his deputy Barry Wood to succeed him, as is the usual practice. But former mayor Cllr Ken Arlett stood against him with the backing of three others.

Two pet cats were killed by smoke inhalation when fire swept through a sheltered housing bungalow in Goring. The home of Brian and Rosemary Duncan in Icknield Place was extensively damaged by the fire, which started in the electrics cupboard in the hallway on Tuesday afternoon.
