A £2.5MILLION riverside home was gutted when fire ripped through its thatched roof, forcing 10 people

A £2.5MILLION riverside home was gutted when fire ripped through its thatched roof, forcing 10 people to flee to safety. More than 15 fire engines and 100 firefighters were called to tackle the blaze at the Shallows in Bolney Road, Shiplake, which started shortly before 8pm on Saturday. Owners Marie Cooper, 55, and 59-year-old Nick Bastian, father of actress Ali Bastian, who plays Becca in Hollyoaks, had just completed an 18-month refurbishment of the house. The couple escaped unhurt, as did two guests, five children and a cook.

A boy is recovering in hospital with head wounds after a shooting incident. It is understood the 13-year-old and a friend were playing with an air rifle when the gun accidentally went off. Police and ambulances were called to a house in Henley at 7.35pm on Friday and the victim was taken to the Royal Berkshire Hospital in Reading.

A Henley couple have installed a 25ft pop art billboard to protest at plans for a second mobile phone mast outside their home. Phil and Judy Perry are fighting a planning application by phone giant O2 for a 12.5m mast at the junction of Greys Road and Elizabeth Road, just 30ft from an Orange mobile mast.
