A PROMISING start to the holiday weekend from the weather point of view led to congested traffic

A PROMISING start to the holiday weekend from the weather point of view led to congested traffic conditions in many areas. Henley and district had its share of crowded roads, this being particularly the case at the Remenham junction of the Henley to Maidenhead and Henley to Twyford roads, where a number of delays occurred.

For the second time in recent weeks the Station Road office of bookmakers Sam Cowan was broken into by thieves and about £6 was stolen. On the same night (Tuesday), the Greys Road premises was entered and cash totalling nearly £32 was taken.

Police are searching for a man and a youth who carried out indecent assaults in Henley. The first incident took place at 6pm on Saturday at the women’s lavatories in the King’s Road car park. A 24-year-old woman was assaulted by a youth aged 13 to 15. On Wednesday at 5pm, two 11-year-old girls were assaulted by a man in a field near Mill Meadows. He is described as 25 to 35, 5ft 6in, dark-skinned and only able to speak a limited amount of English.
