A DAUGHTER has spoken of her nightmare as she watched doctors and emergency services battle in vain to save the life of her 85-year-old mother following a car crash. Phyllis Hood was driving her Fiat Panda along Woodlands Road in Shiplake at 1pm on Easter Sunday when it collided with a Vauxhall Corsa at the junction with Reading Road by the war memorial. There were four people in the Corsa, including a nine-year-old boy. All escaped unhurt apart from the woman driver, who suffered minor injuries.

It’s all systems go for the first ever Henley Food Festival, which takes place next weekend. Market Place will take on a new look as a giant food hall will be erected to house displays of everything to do with cooking. The town hall will host at least 16 cooking demonstrations with many local and celebrity chefs taking part.

Phyllis Court Club has started to celebrate its centenary year by opening its new Orangery restaurant and conservatory. The £400,000 project, which took just over four months to complete, gives members stunning views over the gardens and down to the river while they sit back and dine or relax with a drink.
