Wedding dresses part of vintage auction

A SECOND vintage fashion auction will take place on Saturday, February 7, at Mallams Auctioneers in Oxford.

A SECOND vintage fashion auction will take place on Saturday, February 7, at Mallams Auctioneers in Oxford.

This year the auction will feature a private collection of Alexander McQueen fashion, more than 200 lots of vintage and designer clothing, accessories, costume jewellery and also a specially selected section of vintage wedding dresses.

The wedding dresses that will be sold during the auction cover almost every decade of the 20th century.

From satin, figure-skimming dresses of the Twenties and Thirties to the full lace skirts of the Fifties, each dress comes with a unique history and, as vintage themed weddings become ever more popular, it is the perfect opportunity to purchase a unique one-of-a-kind vintage dress.

One of the key pieces of the section is a Sixties Christian Dior boutique shift dress with matching cropped jacket, both embossed with flowers.

This vintage designer outfit is in the auction at £300 to £500.

Other dresses include a stunning 1949 wedding dress with silver thread detailing and a cream silk Thirties dress in the style made famous by Baba Beaton (and whose dress is on display at the V&A).

Auction prices for these dresses start as low as just £40.
