York’s double strike helps side win promotion clash
Published 14/01/13

RHYS YORK netted twice as Premier Division league leaders HENLEY YMCA cruised to a 6-1 home win against promotion rivals PURLEY.

The hosts took the lead after 12 minutes when Michael Butcher latched on to a pass from Stuart Brown to slip the ball under the Purley keeper.

The lead was doubled 10 minutes later when Ben Farmar pounced to steer in a header at the far post from a Chris Williams free kick.

Rhys York made it 3-0 just before half-time, taking the ball around the goalkeeper and easing it into an open net after a pass from Arran Finch.

Purley tried to claw their way back after some decent pressure resulted in a penalty kick slotted down the middle. However, the game changed when the visitors’ left-back was sent off for violent conduct.

Simon Bradley stroked the ball past the keeper to make it 4-1 after 83 minutes after good play from Simon Chandler. York tapped in his seventh goal in four starts with two minutes to go.

Williams cut in from the left and clipped a 25-yard curler over the goalkeeper for the goal of the match in the closing stages.

Aaron Attfield netted twice as SC UNITED maintained their Division 3 East promotion push with a 3-0 win at FC WOODLEY. United opened the scoring after 25 minutes when striker Attfield beat the offside trap and got on the end of centre back Simon Eades’ 40-yard pass before rifling home from the edge of the area.

Five minutes into the second half Attfield burst into the Woodley box and having gone past two defenders was tripped up to earn his side a penalty. Attfield converted for his 10th goal of the season.

On the hour mark attacking midfielder Lukonde Kasonde headed in a Jonny Cartwright corner only to have it disallowed as the linesman ruled that the corner had swung out of play.

Soon after Kasonde got his name on the score sheet when left winger Cartwright cut in off the wing, teeing him up to sidefoot home from close range.

In Division 4 East SC UNITED RESERVES suffered a heavy 7-0 home defeat against WHITLEY PANTHERS at Bishopswood.

Meanwhile basement side AFC HENLEY picked up a point from their drew 4-4 at AFC PALMER. Joe Ball, Jack Beales, Deacon Brown and Adam Henley were the scorers for the visitors.e_SClB
