Masters’ strike puts Robins in last four
Published 18/03/13

GORING ROBINS U10s crashed to a 6-2 aggregate defeat at home to CHALGROVE CAVALIERS U10s in the Oxford Mail Boys’ League Red Division clash last Saturday.

In the first match the Robins went down 4-1 in a game that had four own goals.

Chalgrove opened the scoring after five minutes from a long-range shot. Harry Purdy then pressured the Chalgrove keeper into helping the ball over the line for an equaliser.

However, three Goring own goals sealed the game, the first two going in from attempted clearances.

Good saves by Billy Cusack kept the score line down, whilst Richard Lloyd was the Robins’ man-of-the-match for his running from midfield.

In the second match the Robins narrowly lost 2-1. Chalgrove scored early but a good exchange between Will Wakelam and man-of-the-match Rowan Prince led to Prince equalising for the Robins.

Chalgrove carved out a pair of good opportunities before half-time and scored what proved to be the winner from the second. In the second half, Goring’s defence, led by Tristan Evers, remained defiant but Goring could not convert any of their chances.

A third game was played which Chalgrove won 3-1, Josh Wiltshire scoring for the Robins.

GORING ROBINS U12s ran out 2-1 winners in the Oxford Mail Boys’ League Cup at HARWELL AND HENDRED YOUTH U12s.

Harwell took the lead midway through the first half. Goring responded well and soon started to dominate. Good work down the right from Dan Wallace created a chance for Jamie Masters, before Jamie Barker tapped in when the keeper failed to keep hold.

The Robins scored the winner early in the second half. A ball over the top released Masters who slotted past the out-rushing keeper.

Hugh Murray intervened with a last-ditch tackle when Harwell looked odds-on to equalise as the visitors held on to secure a place in the semi-finals.
