HURLEY ran out comfortable winners against PINKNEYS GREEN at Shepherds Lane in their last Division 2 match of the season on Saturday.
Hurley won the toss and chose to bat on a bone-dry wicket where David Simoes departed in the eighth over.
Opener Mark Peck’s bowling tended to err short, and Hunjan scored boundaries on the off side. After Curlewis was introduced the Hurley innings became becalmed, and this pressure resulted in the dismissal of Naeem Akhtar with the score on 49.
Varun Sharma was able to mobilise the scoreboard once again, and Dhillon was replaced by Ben Purchese after having strayed repeatedly down the leg side.
Hunjan and Sharma added 57 in 14 overs for the third wicket until the latter was caught at slip. Hunjan and Steve Taylor then added 78 in 13 overs for the fourth wicket until the right-handed opener was bowled with the score on 185.
Pinkneys Green then took five Hurley wickets in three overs for the addition of only five runs. Ridgeway, batting at seven, and Vikram Bhagwani added 29 in five overs in a late flourish to secure the fifth batting point, the latter having fallen to a fine catch at deep extra cover.
After tea Akhtar took the old ball from the Farm end while Langlands took the new ball during the fourth over.
The two Pinkneys Green openers survived appeals for lbw but these were only temporary reprieves as both had departed via catches by the seventh over with the score on six.
Dhillon came to the crease in the 12th over with the score on 20 and was sixth out in the 17th over with the score on 51, Akhtar having found his edge which was pouched by Denis Day.
Ben Snapes offered some resistance in the late-order until bowled by Bhagwani from the Farm end. Graham Box was introduced, and only required three deliveries to take the final wicket via a caught-and-bowled chance.

Division 3 basement side HURLEY 2nds ended their disappointing season with defeat at PINKNEYS GREEN 2nds.
Opting to bat first Hurley openers Mike Walton and Clive Williams found life difficult on a wicket with unpredictable bounce.
Tayyab Khan and Saleem Ahmed kept the batsmen tied down with some good swing bowling aided by the unpredictable wicket.
Only 13 runs had been scored by the ninth over when Williams was bowled by Khan. Walton and Abdullah Ali had pushed the score up to 50 by the drinks break without further loss and then looked to accelerate.
Ali was caught behind off Ahmed in the first over after drinks but despite this setback 27 runs were added in the next four overs by Walton and Imran Arshad.
The loss of Walton, run out by a direct hit, precipitated a collapse with the loss of three wickets for 15 runs in four overs. Alan Morgans and Scott Taylor staged a recovery with a partnership of 25 for the seventh wicket while Nigel Haines and Dave Walton saw Hurley to a total of 153-8.
Hurley opened the bowling with the pairing of Dave Pollitt and Nigel Haines with the old ball. The first six overs produced 10 runs and Haines was unlucky not to pick up a wicket in his first over when Cary got a leading edge which the bowler just failed to hang on to as he dived for the catch.
Cary failed to take advantage of the let off, edging Haines to slip where Williams juggled the ball before trapping it between his arm and torso to send Cary back without scoring.
Tanveer Butt joined Nadeem Asif in adding 30 for the second wicket in the next six overs before Haines trapped Asif lbw.
The left-handed Majid Nazir replaced Asif and scored 31 in a partnership of 101 for the third wicket to put the hosts in sight of victory.
A few dropped chances, all of them difficult, cost Hurley dearly but two late wickets to good catches in the deep by Abdullah Ali provided some consolation for David Morgans and Dave Walton.
With the scores level, the game ended on something of an anti-climax as Morgans over stepped the crease giving the hosts victory.
