Maltby in fine form
Published 30/09/13

THE Reading and District season got under way last week with seven teams entered from Sonning Common and Peppard table tennis club.

The A team’s match in Division 1 was postponed but the B team were in action in the same division. Nigel Maltby picked up two wins over Lisa Williams and Andy Parker, Paul Jarvis also beat Williams as they held Kingfisher C to 3-3 half way. The Kingfisher team finished strongly and despite a great effort from Tim Raby when only just losing out to Lisa, the team eventually lost 7-3.

There was better fortune for the C team in Division 2 as they beat Tilehurst Methodists A 7-3, Matt Stone with a treble, while both Brian Meheux and Jonathan Abbott won twice.

In Division 4 the D team picked up a fine opening 6-4 win against Tidmarsh D with new recruit Alan Mollet, Derek Wavell and Anthony Reeves all contributing.

The G team of mainly youngsters just failed to grab a point as they lost 6-4 at Springfield C, Phil Turton with two while Thomas Perkins and Joseph Barraclough both earned debut singles victories.
