Bulls shut out at Worthing
Published 09/12/13

HENLEY BULLS’ recent run of good form came to a halt at Roundstone Park as Worthing A produced a fine display of continuity to score seven tries in putting the Bulls to the sword.

Adam Lubbock, forced to start in the unfamiliar role of scrum half, also made two try-saving tackles during a first half dominated entirely by the Worthing back row and strong running centre partnership, starving the Bulls of any quality possession throughout the entire first half.

The performance of captain Tommy Haynes and prop George Hayes who fought hard to gain parity, was the only glint of light in an under-par display from the Bulls.

The Bulls continued their policy of blooding home grown talent, giving debuts to James Percell-Lacey and Owen Thatcher, both products of the Colts set-up, and Gareth Johnsen from the Vikings, as the injury-hit Hawks had plucked Neil Baggett, Christoph Bart and James Hadfield for duty against the Worthing Raiders.

The young debutant Percell-Lacey showed promising ability later on in the game with two darting attacks that threatened Worthing’s territory and the return of James Bloxham was a welcome boost, but despite their efforts during the final 30 minutes of the game, the Bulls failed to return to Dry Leas with anything but wounded pride.
