Local crews triumph at Wallingford Head
Published 16/12/13

THREE crews from Upper Thames competed at the Wallingford Head last Sunday, with the Masters D crew winning for the second week in a row.

In the morning division the men’s first eight finished in second place overall behind Oxford Brookes University in a time of 14 minutes 20 seconds, with the B crew clocking 14 minutes, 47 seconds. Three hours later the top boat completed the course again in the same time with the second crew improving their result by nine seconds.

The Masters D crew, for average age of 50-years-old, also raced, beating other veteran crews by a considerable distance in a time of 15 minutes, 32 seconds.

Shiplake College Boat Club added to its already impressive list of victories this season by recording another win in the Intermediate 3 coxed fours at Sunday’s Wallingford Head.

The crew romped home with a winning margin of 20 seconds to the next best placed crew of Radley College.

The crew that triumphed in the 12-boat category consisted of Harry Vardigans, Dom Parnell, Henry Cawthorne, Dom Marsh and Max Hearnden.

In the Intermediate 3 eights Shiplake finished fourth out of 24 boats while in novice eights the Shiplake crews finished fourth and sixth out of 13 crews.

The J16 eight finished ninth out of 18 crews while the J15s finished 10th out of 17.
