Mixed team see off Maidenhead challenge
Published 13/01/14

AFTER a four-week break without a match, a combined Henley 1st and 2nd team got back into action on Saturday with a 3-1 win over Maidenhead 2nds.

Cleo Lyn put some crosses into the D after good work out of defence by Kath Draycott and Kat Green.

Henley went a goal up after an attack into the D from Green, slipping the ball to Serena Hickman waiting on the post to tap the ball over the line.

Ellie Roseff and Georgie Metcalfe created several good attacking moves down the right while the forwards did plenty of tireless running and won a penalty corner, which was converted by Green.

At the start of the second half Henley dropped off and goalkeeper Lavis was forced to make a number of crucial saves, earning her the honour of man-of-the-match.

Metcalfe prevented Maidenhead scoring with a goal-line save before the Henley players stepped it up again and created further chances.

Henley’s final goal came from a cross from Katie Butler which was touched in by Molly Lambourne.

The amber and blues couldn’t keep a clean sheet as Maidenhead had a shot late on and the ball spun over the line.
