SHIPLAKE COLLEGE 1st team kicked off their season by edging out LVS ASCOT 1sts 5-4 in a nine-goal thriller.
Markus Grun was named man-of-the-match after bagging two goals. Grun was denied a hat-trick when a later shot rattled the crossbar. Charlie Proctor also put in a good performance.
SHIPLAKE COLLEGE 2nds started slowly against LVS ASCOT 2nds and went a goal behind after 20 minutes when a dangerous ball across the Shiplake six-yard line resulted in Sam Mummery putting through his own net. Heads did not drop despite LVS Ascot grabbing a second as play settled down.
Shiplake’s persistence paid off in the closing stages of the half as James Sloman’s effort bounced and bobbled its way past the onrushing goalkeeper after shooting from the edge of the box.
Shiplake pressed hard for a second half equaliser but with the last touch of the game LVS Ascot managed score again to run out 3-1 winners.
The U14A team’s fixture away to Forest School was called off due to a waterlogged pitch.
