Published 03/02/14

WARGRAVE athlete Georgina Westwood picked up bronze in the international indoor combined events competition held at the English Institute of Sport in Sheffield last weekend.

The year 13 Reading Blue Coat student also put in four personal best performances as she represented Great Britain against athletes from France and Spain.

The 17-year-old competed as an U20 in the U20/U23 two-day event. Her overall results saw her come 14th in the 60m hurdle, eighth in the high jump with a personal best of 1.72 metres, fifth in the 800 metres in a personal best time of two minutes, 25.56 seconds, seventh in the shot put with a personal best of 10.68 metres and ninth in the long jump with a personal best of 5.46 metres.

Simon Cook, head of athletics at Blue Coat, commented: “This is an outstanding result for Georgina. To achieve such high standards in so many athletics disciplines in one day is testament to her hard work and undoubted natural ability.”

In addition to winning the bronze medal, another highlight for Westwood was meeting Olympic gold heptathlon medallist Jessica Ennis-Hill who attended Sunday’s events.
