HENLEY TOWN, playing their first Hellenic League Division 1 East match since December 14, picked up a point at Didcot Town Reserves on Tuesday, writes Michael Trendall.
The fact that this game was on was credit to the groundstaff at Didcot Town and both teams played well considering the blustery conditions and driving rain.
The Red Kites kicked off against the wind and caused the home side some problems, so much in fact that the hosts picked up two yellow cards in the first 12 minutes.
Gradually Didcot got back into the game and Steven Fairchild had to be alert to hold a skidding low ball from the left wing.
Tallett was booked for a late tackle just inside his half as Didcot broke away and from the free kick Fairchild turned the ball around his left hand post.
The hosts thought they had taken the lead after 40 minutes only for the effort to be ruled out for off side. Conditions worsened in the second half. Graham Sims shot straight at the keeper when in a good position while Tallett did well to throw himself on the ball as Smith fired from close range.
Louis Howell, tricky in the centre forward spot, did well in holding up the ball and started the move that led to the first goal in the 63rd minute, hitting the post before Dan Faherty tapped in the rebound.
John Donegan came on for Karl Sims while Didcot made two substitutions. The equaliser came 10 minutes from time following a corner when Eudell turned and hooked the ball past Fairchild.
Ben Clark picked up a leg injury that held up the match for a while but was able to limp down the left wing as the game finished all square.
Henley Town: S Fairchild, A Nunn, S Rolfe, G Sims, W Baxter, B Tallett, B Faherty, R Thomas, L Howell, B Clark, K Sims.
