Sun shines on Goring as they storm ahead
Published 24/02/14

GORING raced into a 3-0 lead within 20 minutes against AFC Bughfield in their Reading Sunday League Division 1 West fixture.

With the sun shining on Goring, the home side took the lead after just two minutes, when a cross from Luke Butler found Jack Purser, who won the first header and then capitalised on a ricochet to slam the ball home from close range.

Things brightened even more on 15 minutes as a long ball out of the defence by player/manager Pat Dyer, found Toby Nowell, who outpaced the Burghfield back-four to score past the keeper.

Minutes later it was 3-0, with Dyer scoring with a dipping shot from 22 yards. On the half hour mark, Burghfield pulled a goal back.

The second half was more even, with chances at both ends, but nether side was able to score.

Goring’s best players: midfielders Pat Dyer and Sam Green.

Goring managed to fare less well in their Saturday League match, going down 7-2 at home to Berkshire United in Division 1.

Elsewhere it was a familiar story of postponements as the weather continued to take its toll on the fixture list.

The only other action across all divisions in the Saturday league was a 3-2 home defeat for Theale against Eldon Celtic and only one other match was played in the entire Sunday league.
