EMMER GREEN booked their place in the Tilehurst Charity Cup final at the Madejski Stadium after a 5-3 penalty win against Whitley Tavern on Sunday.
After a goalless first half things were looking bleak for the hosts when they lost John Donegan at the start of the second half with concussion and shortly after found themselves a goal down following a penalty. Tavern scored a second and Emmer Green had a mountain to climb with the minutes ticking away.
As the match entered stoppage time Emmer Green won a penalty after Bart Rochatka was brought down in the penalty box. Daniel Donegan stepped up and fired home.
Two minutes later the hosts were level after some good work from Ciaran Crean who fed the ball through to Daniel Donegan to see his shot hit the back of the net and take the game into extra time.
With the tie level at the end of the extra 30 minutes the match went to penalties. Green went first with Josh Beisly stepping up and firing home. Tavern equalised. Chris Read was up second and scored. Tavern equalised again.
Matt Fox netted Green’s third before Tavern equalised once more. Daniel Donegan netted his side’s fourth of the game before Mark Compton saved Tavern’s spot kick to put his side ahead.
Adam Tombs then stepped up to fire home Emmer Green’s fifth penalty and secure a place in the final.
