Barker takes honours in farewell competition

CAVERSHAM HEATH’S 2013/14 captains bowed out in style in the Captains’ Farewell competition. Twenty-two teams of four took part in the competition to the outgoing pair of Chris Bennett and Jill McEvoy. The competition winners were David Stankard, Andrew Thompson, David Northmore and Julie Daniels with 96 points.

Two points behind were Darren Bonney, Gareth Johns, Greg McDonald and John Purnell with 94 points.

Daphne Barker claimed the Ladies’ Captain’s Farewell competition prize with 44 points. Second was Jean Head with 39 points and third was Caroline Dover with 37 points.

The team prize went to Sheila Evans, Jean Head and Joyce Collins with 100 points.

During the year £7,120 was raised for the captains’ chosen charity Helen and Douglas House.


Next month new club captains Peter Bishop and Issy Wiggins-Turner will drive into office in the annual Captains’ Drive-in competition. Vice captains for the coming year are Barry Reynolds and Suzanne Snow.

Barry Rulton took the Division 1 honours in the March Midweek Stableford with 43 points.

Runner-up was Darren Bonney with 42 points and third was Hollis Boisson with 39 points.

There was a tight finish in Division 2 where two points separated the top five with Joyce Collins coming out on top with 36 points.

Daniel Thompson was second with 35 points and third was Allison Addison, on countback from Ken Hanson and Caroline Dover, all with 34.

Last weekend’s Stableford competition had to be abandoned.
