Defeats hamper Kidmore End and Henley Town’s hopes
Published 31/03/14

A BRACE from Simon Griffiths and one goal from Chris Read helped EMMER GREEN pick up all three Senior Division points in their 3-1 home victory against GHANA STARS.

Premier Division leaders RG ATHLETIC came from a goal behind to beat visitors KIDMORE END 3-1.

Kidmore End took the lead when Dighton turned smartly to finish from eight yards after 30 minutes. In the second half RG Athletic put Kidmore on the back foot and sustained pressure saw them net three goals.

Kidmore almost grabbed a consolation, but Anthony Holland’s effort was cleared off the line.

HENLEY TOWN’S 2-1 defeat at SOUTHBANK was only their second in the league this season but could prove costly in their hunt for promotion.

Henley fielded a much weakened team, with not only regular keeper Andy Menear but also his deputy missing through injury. The Red Kites had themselves to blame for missing a stream of chances right the way through the match. The defence made serious errors only twice but were published for both of them.

The home side took a first-half lead, but Craig Sinclair equalised on the hour. There were only a few minutes remaining when Southbank scored the winner.

GORING UNITED went down to a 5-1 defeat at home to Division 1 West leaders MEADWAY YOUTH despite taking the lead in the second half.

After a goalless first half United went in front after 55 minutes when Tom Brownlow latched on to a through ball from Mike Holloway before finishing from 12 yards.

Meadway drew level five minutes later with a close range header. As Goring tired, Meadway scored four further goals in the final 15 minutes to wrap up the points.

Division 1 East league leaders COUNTY picked up all three points in a 2-0 win away to basement side HENLEY YMCA UNITED.

United top scorer Sam Tyalor rattled the County woodwork early on but a goal either side of half-time secured the points for the visitors.

SC UNITED closed the gap at the top of Division 2 West to two points thanks to a 1-0 home win against BARTON ROVERS RESERVES.

Right winger Scott Gyngell scored the only goal of the match when his effort deflected in off a Barton defender in a goalmouth scramble midway through the first half.

Elsewhere in the division KIDMORE END RESERVES suffered a 6-3 home defeat against AFC BURGHFIELD RESERVES.
