HENLEY TOWN met Chalfont Wasps in a rearranged Tuesday fixture, with an early 6.30pm kickoff in Uhlsport Hellenic Division One East.
Work commitments and player availability impacted on the Red Kites’ team selection.
Wasps’ Adam Davis, who played well throughout the game, shot wide straight from the kick-off and Kieran Webb was another dangerous player in the Chalfont side.
The visitors struggled to adapt to the long grass and unpredictable playing surface.
Wasps looked in command after 15 minutes, with Graham Simms’ attempt, which went wide, the only real chance for the the Kites.
Twenty minutes into the game Kieran Webb laid off the ball and found space to take the return pass before slotting past the Kites keeper to open the scoring.
Four minutes later, Fred Tripp increased the Wasps lead with a well-timed lob over the advancing Sinclair.
Graham Simms was booked for a heavy tackle and Wasps Webb was shown a yellow card for a challenge on Clark.
Henley looked vulnerable as Wasps pushed up the field for a third.
John Donegan received a good ball from Karl Simms, his shot wide of the goal as the despairing Kites went in at half-time at 2-0 down.
Andrew Nunn replaced Craig Sinclair between the posts and Louis Howell came on as a substitute for Henley.
Jean Pierre Jamil came on for Chalfont, immediately making an impact with a good run and a low shot, making it 3-0 after 52 minutes.
Kites’ Carl Simms blasted the ball at Wasps keeper Chris Tullitt, his fine reflex save keeping the ball out of the net.
Ben Clark sent the ball over the bar as Henley attempted to get back into the game.
Louis Howell’s fierce drive was palmed into the net by the stretching Tullitt, as Henley scored on the 60 minute mark.
Kites played their best football after the goal, Graham Simms header travelling just over the crossbar minutes later.
Tempers threatened to boil before the final whistle signalled the end of this prickly encounter.
