HARPSDEN progressed to the next round of the second round of the National Village Knockout Cup on Sunday after easing to a 10-wicket victory at SANDFORD ST MARTIN.
The visitors opened the bowling with Wright and Birkett. With both players finding early swing it wasn’t long before the breakthrough was made, Birkett bowling Tanner without troubling the scorers.
Taylor soon followed via the same dismissal. Thomson eased some nerves for the hosts as he hit two fours in quick succession, but he was then undone by a fine piece of bowling from Birkett as he found his off stump knocked backwards.
This proved to be the catalyst for a Sandford collapse, as Harpsden pinned them down with some exceptional bowling from Hancock, Heath and the returning Wright.
Hancock picked up the fourth and fifth wickets, clean bowling Cook and Ong, before Heath got in on the act, picking up four wickets, with a Wright wicket sandwiched in between.
This left Howe stranded at the other end, who despite struggling to get the ball away, was the only batsman who showed an ability to keep out the ferocious Harpsden bowling attack as he saw his fellow teammates fall to leave Sandford posting 51 all out.
Imlay and Cary mixed good timing with quick running between the wickets as Harpsden reached their target in just 10 overs to secure victory.
