ROTHERFIELD UNITED U13s have completed an unlikely Berkshire Youth League Division 2 title and Plate double.
The season started bleakly for United as they lost their first match of the season 20-0, a result of which almost led to a mass exodus of players as the side looked like it would break up.
However, the side stuck together and got back to winning ways and picked up their first piece of silverware at Calleva Park where they beat HURST U13s 3-2 in the Plate final.
Last Saturday United wrapped up a memorable campaign as they beat WHITCHURCH U13s in their final league match of the season to secure the league title.
Champions CAVERSHAM CRUSADERS U10s rounded off their Berkshire Youth Development League season with victory in the cup final on Saturday.
A 3-1 win over THATCHAM TOWN U10s completed the league and cup double for the Caversham boys and left them undefeated all season. Caversham survived an early scare when goalkeeper George Jacklin won a one-on-one with a Thatcham attacker to deny what seemed a certain goal.
Joe Warren calmed Caversham nerves with a poacher’s goal after 10 minutes and Oskar Browning made it 2-0 five minutes later. Both goals came from solid midfield work from Harry Wardle and Sam Warren.
Thatcham hit back with a goal minutes into the second half, but as the team tried for an equaliser, Caversham’s Joe Warren finished off a slick five-pass move with a deft flick over the Thatcham keeper.
l Caversham move from seven-a-side to nine-a-side next season and are looking for more players. Anyone interested in joining the side should contact John or Peter Hoadley on 07870 475789.
