Crawford powers to heroic century
Published 02/06/14

ON a wicket still containing much of three days of persistent rain, Turville Park and Checkendon played out an exciting draw at Turville on Sunday.

Batting first, Checkendon were in early trouble at 43-5, as Nick Henry (25-3) took full advantage of the conditions with some guileful swing and seam bowling.

Thanks to some powerful batting from Crawford (113), the visitors were nonetheless able to recover to post a competitive 193-9 off 42 overs.

In the event, Turville performed heroically in chasing down this total, falling just short at 190-7 off only 36 overs.

Strong contributions from Sam Beardall (63), Ollie Thornton (38) set up a solid platform, and a quick fire 37 from Rob Gunn helped the home team into a potentially match-winning position.

Checkendon’s first innings centurion Crawford backed up brilliantly with the ball however to deny Turville at the last with his controlled off spin and figures of 26-2.
