A PUPIL at Shiplake College has been selected as a volunteer for the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.
Ruaridh Sheppard, 17, from Sonning, will work as a field of play team member at the rugby sevens competition.
He is one of the 15,000 volunteers chosen from more than 45,000 applicants and has already attended several training days.
The sevens tournament is being held at Ibrox Stadium, the home of Glasgow Rangers Football Club, and Ruaridh will also be assisting at Glasgow Academy where all 16 international teams will be training. On competition days he will escort teams on to the pitch, act as a ball boy and help with the stewarding of spectators.
Ruaridh, who is hooker for the Shiplake College second XV, said he was looking forward to the experience.
He will return to Scotland next month as part of Shiplake College’s theatre company which is to perform at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.
