AN unbeaten century by Paul Davis provided the backbone of the FIDDLERS innings as they cruised to victory against HURLEY at Shepherds Lane on Sunday.
Having won the toss and opting to bat first, the Hurley innings got off to a slow start against an accurate pace attack of Luke Beard and Govinder Bhacsu.
The score had trickled along to 16 in the seventh over when Alan Morgans was beaten for pace by a full length delivery from Beard which knocked the middle stump out of the ground.
Pat Hinnell and Parvinder Hunjan saw off the opening attack and took the score to 58 after 18 overs before Simon Jessup removed Hinnell.
Naeem Akhtar continued his good form with a brisk half-century, including a switch hit for six. Another attempted switch hit proved to be his downfall as he top edged David Woodworth to Davies.
Matt Hampton made 29 including a six into the windscreen of his own car. A flurry of late wickets as Hurley looked to push on saw them finish on 205-8 after 45 overs.
Despite losing Hewitt in the third over, caught one-handed by Hampton at gully off Ben Fraser, Fiddlers never looked in trouble chasing down the 206 required to win.
Davis had a couple of lives on his way to his century but none of the bowlers could contain him once he got set. James Nunn fell at 74 in the 15th over to a catch by Jordan Barradell-Pither off Hunjan, but this was only a minor setback as Fiddlers eased to victory with eight overs to spare.
