Hosts make home advantage tell

SHIPLAKE defeated visitors BANBURY CENTRAL in Division 1 of the Oxford and District League on Thursday of last week by 79 shots to 74. The hosts picked up five points to the visitors’ one.

The rink of Trevor Beaumont got away to a flier and led 11-0 after six ends but the visitors came back strongly. However, a five on the 18th end ensured victory to the hosts.

Barrie Evans’ rink, playing against the county president, put 12 on the board after seven ends, and despite a lull in the middle of the game ran out easy winners by nine shots.

Barry Lambourne’s rink suffered two six shots against ends during their tie, but showed enough class to shrug these off to win by six.

It was a night to forget for Jim Bland’s four who went down 29-13.

WARGRAVE lost out at home to SUTTONS B in the Kennet League by 81 shots to 67. The hosts picked up two points to the visitors’ 12.

In the KLX League, WARGRAVE went down 66-44 away to MAIDENHEAD TOWN. The hosts gained eight points to the visitors’ two.

WARGRAVE ran out winners at home to BRACKNELL in a five mixed triples match by 87 shots to 68. Wargrave were home to Bracknell, five mixed triples were played and beat the opposing team with a score of 87 to 68.

WARGRAVE ran out 97-80 winners away to CIPPENHAM in a five mixed triples match. Elsewhere WARGRAVE defeated visitors WOODLEY 91-78 in a five mixed triples friendly.
