Old Challoners 4, Hambleden 0
HAMBLEDEN travelled to Amersham last Saturday for a Berks and Bucks County Cup tie against Old Challoners, where they got off to the worst possible start conceding a goal inside 60 seconds.
Hambleden composed themselves, and for the rest of the half were much in the game. Chris Francis had a chance to level on 30 minutes, but a rush of blood to the head got the better of him, and he shot at the ’keeper.
Minutes later Sean Farrington had a chance but the ball wouldn’t sit down for him and he couldn’t get a shot away from close range. On the stroke of half time, ’keeper Ross Hathaway kept Hambleden’s hopes alive with a fine save, tipping the ball over the bar.
Challoners upped the tempo in the second half and goals in the 58th, 68th and 85th minutes ended Hambleden’s hopes for another year in the county cup.
Hambleden’s league campaign gets underway tomorrow (Saturday) with an away trip to Wycombe Judo, kick-off 2.30pm.
Hambleden: Hathaway, Allott (Coles 60, Stuart Farrington 82), Lakovic, Markwell, Francis, Ellis, Cook, Mcleod, Maknin, Brunning, Sean Farrington.
