UPPER Thames put in an excellent performance at the Veteran Fours Head of the River on Sunday, winning the veteran D quadruple sculls and achieving second place in the veteran C coxed fours.
Following the cancellation of the Fullers Fours Head the previous day, conditions on the four and a quarter mile course from Mortlake to Putney were perfect.
The veteran D quad of Andy Ciecierski, David Hope, John Ewans and Graham Lloyd had a superb race, winning their category by one second over a crew from Quintin Boat Club, in a time of 19 minutes 48 seconds. As a new combination they were delighted with their result, which not only placed them as the fastest veteran D quad, but also as the sixth fastest crew of the day out of the 161 competitors.
Upper Thames also had a solid row in the veteran C coxed four. The combination of Daniel Sadler, Chris Hall, Alex Jessel, Peter Jacobs and cox Sammy Holt, came second out of the 13 crews competing in their event, and only lost to a very strong crew from Crabtree Boat Club.
