READING boss Brian McDermott says he is happy with the business he has done so far in the January transfer window and has stated that more deals could be possible.

Last Friday the Royals signed defender Stephen Kelly from Fulham, having already added midfielders Daniel Carrico and Hope Akpan to the squad earlier in the month.

McDermott said: “We’ve now signed Stephen Kelly, a great lad and he fits right into what we’re about, he’ll be an asset and I think it’s a great signing.

People talk about our fans wanting big big names, but for me Stephen’s a big name because he will fit into what we’re trying to do. I’ve been here 12 years and the biggest names we’ve ever signed are Martin Keown and Les Ferdinand. I try to sign players who will fit in and are within our budget.”

Meanwhile defender Stoppila Sunzu arrived in Reading earlier this week for a four-day training stay with the club.

Sunzu, 23, has been given permission by Zambia and his club TP Mazembe to temporarily leave his country’s African Cup of Nations squad, in order to train with the Royals and be assessed by our coaching staff. Sunzu was due to rejoin the Zambia squad ahead of their first Cup of Nations game against Ethiopia on Monday.

Reading have also been linked with a move for Celta Vigo striker Iago Aspas which, if the deal goes through, will see the Royals smash their transfer record fee paid for a player. The sought after striker is also being chased by a host of others clubs including Chelsea, Newcastle United, Swansea City and Valencia.
