Artists create 'Eden' project inspired by trust property

ARTISTS Sarah Pye and Kate Findlay’s third exhibition at Greys Court will take place from next Saturday to Sunday, June 1.

Entitled “This Other Eden”, Sarah’s original paintings and Kate’s textile art will feature, alongside silver jewellery by Janet Richardson.

Sarah says: “Kate and I feel very lucky to have been invited back once again to show this collection.

“It’s completely new work, you’ll never see the same painting there twice. We’ve both worked hard to pull up a new collection of pieces. Kate and I have been up to Greys this spring, I take photographs of the grounds because when you’re painting sometimes you don’t want to copy a photograph but you want to capture the essence of something and that’s what it’s about really.”

The title is taken from Shakespeare’s Richard II, adds Sarah. “We feel the words in this title epitomise this collection of original artwork, inspired by the natural world around us.

“More by luck than judgement this title also happens to coincide with Greys Court’s theme, connected to theatre and drama this coming summer season too.

“Both Kate and myself have been working on pieces directly influenced by the grounds and surrounding environment of Greys Court.

“Whether it be the bluebell woods, the apple blossom orchard or the wisteria walkways, not to mention the vegetable garden full of stunning artichokes during the summer and all surrounded by beautiful brick and flint walling, there are endless vistas to inspire any artist.”

Panoramas captured within the works include woodlands, wild gardens, flora and fauna.

“We will also be joined by the very lovely Janet Richardson, a local silversmith and jeweller, who was with us for the first time last year. Janet’s beautiful contemporary designs incorporate dragonflies, birds, leaves, semi-precious stones and other aspects of the natural world. Janet not only teaches silversmithing but has written a comprehensive book on it too.”

“This Other Eden” is at Greys Court from Saturday, May 10 to Sunday, June 1, open from 10am to 5pm daily.

All three of the artists will be at the show at different times over the three-week period and will be delighted to talk to people about their work.
