A SOLO exhibition of paintings on the theme of Space opens at the gallery at Henley Business School this weekend.

Lesley Melia, from Bracknell, works mainly with acrylics and her paintings are usually colourful and playful, while her more abstract paintings often have an ethereal quality that she says can have an almost meditative effect on the viewer. She graduated in 2006 with a BA in Art and has since shown her work in a number of exhibitions.

She said: “I enjoy all aspects of being involved with the creative process — from the initial ideas, including any further research involved, to the process of the handling of paint and working with a variety of materials.

“My present work is on the theme of Space with its silence, vastness and breathtaking beauty but also with the great mystery of the unknown.

“In the constant rush to achieve in our bustling, materialistic 24/7 world there is enormous value in looking with awe into something that is beyond oneself.”
