Solitude characterises artist’s work

AN exhibition of work by Scottish artist Stuart Buchanan opens at the Modern Artists Gallery in Whitchurch on Saturday, October

AN exhibition of work by Scottish artist Stuart Buchanan opens at the Modern Artists Gallery in Whitchurch on Saturday, October 19 and runs until November 18.

Buchanan has firmly established himself as a major force within the contemporary Scottish field, and his recent collection bears testament to the growing interest in his work.

His work is immediately identifiable and many of his popular themes are re-visited. His paintings share the common theme of solitude. It is not a lonely or forlorn solitude but rather a celebration of peace and serenity. In a world filled with tumultuous noise, mayhem and disorder, Buchanan has found a very comfortable refuge where the viewer can ignore the havoc of the outside world. The paintings depict mostly single figures, and sometimes pairs and all share an enviable meditative state.
