SOAK up the sun on a Cornish beach and hear the sussuration of sea on shingle in Scotland without leaving Henley.
The Bohun Gallery in Reading Road in hosting an exhibition of the works of a founding member of the St Ives group, abstract artist Wilhelmina Barns-Graham.
Coast to Coast focuses on the sea and coastlines painted at Barns-Graham’s studio at St Ives and the family home in St Andrew’s.
The exhibition celebrates the artist’s long career, including earlier works describing sea currents and waves, the result of long years of observation of the sea. The
series is still lifes of beach paraphernalia; beach towels, deck chairs and windbreaks.
Now recognised as one of the most distinguished artists of the late 20th century, Barns-Graham’s paintings were discovered by new audiences in the Eighties, when she made a late foray into screenprinting. A series of exhibitions and touring exhibitions folowed, including at Tate Modern.
Coast to Coast, Wilhelmina Barns-Graham is at the Bohun Gallery until March 7. Call (01494) 576228 or visit www.bohungallery.co.uk
