IT was a record year for the Robert Piggott School in Wargrave when its pupils took part in the Wokingham District Schools’ Athletic Competition at Palmer Park.
The event was contested by 20 schools from the Wokingham District and this was the first time that Piggott finished overall runners-up in the boys’ competition and third overall.
The school team won the U12s girls’ relay, while Sammy Ball won the boys’ 80m sprint and the long jump, and Megan Pickup won the girls’ 80m sprint.
The school’s boys’ relay and mixed relay teams all recorded runners-up places.
Other stand-out performances include Amelia Walsh, who was runner-up in the girls’ 80m sprint and long jump while Thomas David was runner-up in the boys’ throwing.
Headteacher Stuart Bevan said: “We are very lucky to have so many talented athletes in our school who always demonstrate great determination and courage.”
