HARPSDEN schoolgirl Saoirse McClure Fisher won a gold team medal as well as finishing fourth at the World Biathle Championships held in Guatemala earlier this month.
The competition took place in 40C humid heat at the Guatemalan naval base in San Jose. Athletes from 17 countries around the world competed in the competition with those from Egypt and South Africa having an advantage in the intense heat.
The race for 12-year-old McClure Fisher’s age group consisted of a continuous 500m run, 50m open water swim and finishing with another 500m run. McClure Fisher, who attends the Abbey School, finished in a time of four minutes 22 seconds and was just six seconds off the first place.
