Shiplake snatch dramatic league victory over Oxford

SHIPLAKE entertained OXFORD CITY & COUNTY A last Thursday evening in a Division 1 ODBL fixture which the home side won by the narrow margin of three shots (71-68), four points to two.

The rink, skipped by Barrie Evans, dropped a four on the first end, and from that point struggled to get back into the game.

Ones and twos were exchanged but the visitors’ depth told and gave them a comfortable win by 10.

Jim Bland’s four were pitched against the seasoned four led by the ever-present Alan Ley, but the home side quietly took control to lead, and then hold on to win by two shots.

Barry Lambourne’s rink were the stars of the evening for Shiplake, leading from the outset, pulling away at the midpoint, and putting in a strong finish to secure a 15 shot victory. It all came down to the four led by Trevor Beaumont. The home side led at the start, but by halfway had been pegged back, and then trailed for the rest of the tie.
