SHIPLAKE needed to win well when they visited HARWELL on Saturday to give them any chance of winning the Manchester Unity League and win well they did, by 51 shots (114-63) and 12 points to nil.
Daphne Jacob had a healthy lead of 12 by midway but then her opponents scored eight from four ends only to spur Shiplake on to win the last five ends to win by 13.
Jim Bland picked up a seven on the seventh end but then his opponents won the next five ends before he then scored a four on the last end for victory.
Graham Kennedy’s opponents only won four ends and were well beaten by 21 shots for the highest winning rink.
Trailing by seven midway Wendy Cross then picked up a five and with two more ends was level; two fours on the 15 and 16th secured victory by seven.
