Lambourne in fine form as Shiplake take cup

The visitors went down by 108 shots to 65 in the five mixed triples match and picked up four league points to the hosts’ eight.

Three of Henley’s triples found the green less easy to master than their opponents while Barrie Davies’ and Gill Robins’ triples found it more to their liking, winning by narrow margins of five and one shot respectively.

On Sunday HENLEY beat HEADINGTON 80-22 at home in a mixed triples match.

Due to the visitors not having enough players only three of the four triples were played.

Each of the triples, skipped by Barrie Davies, Len Snelgrove and Frank Powell scored freely giving away few ends.

Last Wednesday hosts WATLINGTON defeated WALLINGFORD by 103 shots to 69 in a mixed five rink triples match.

SHIPLAKE ran out 89-77 winners at home to PEPPARD last Wednesday in the Plomer Cup/Manchester Unity League match, picking up eight points to the visitors’ four.

Barry Lambourne led all the way through and coasted to a 16-shot victory for the hosts while Barrie Evans’ rink finished seven to the good.

Wendy Cross was six shots down at the ninth but came back to win by seven but Graham Kennedy struggled all the way through against Diana Faulkner, losing by four.

Jim Bland was nip and tuck with Geoff Mitson until the end when he dropped a five through a fine bowl from the Peppard skip to take out the home shot to give him five, followed by another five on the last end.

GREAT HOLLANDS eased to a comfortable 112-74 win at SHIPLAKE on Sunday in a five triples mixed friendly match.

Shiplake captain Wendy Cross’ triple were the only ones to win, by four. Other skips for the villagers were Helen Robinson (-15), Sylvia Blackmore (-2), Edna Orchard (-16) and Peter Christmas (-9).

SHIPLAKE lost out at home to KIDLINGTON in Division 2 of the Oxford and District League despite winning three of the four rinks last Thursday. A heavy defeat on the fourth rink saw the visitors win 73-69 as both sides shared the six points.

PEPPARD ran out 87-73 winners at GREAT HOLLANDS last Saturday in a five triples friendly.

Peppard had large wins on two rinks and suffered a heavy defeat on a third rink. Bob Eldred’s triple went down by one shot in a close game while Peter Watkins’ triple, although leading by eight shots after 14 ends, lost 10 shots on the last four ends to lose by two shots.

PEPPARD lost out in their Plomer Cup match against CAVERSHAM on Sunday going down by 10 points to two.

Caversham enjoyed large wins on two rinks. Despite levelling the scores at 19 each on the 19th end David Jennings’ rink lost by four shots. Geof Mitson was always behind on his rink and lost by seven shots despite a late rally.

Peter Watkins’ rink established a lead of 20 shots bye_SClBthe halfway stage and ran out comfortable winners.

Last Wednesday saw WARGRAVE go down to a 101-68 Chiltern/Thames League defeat away to CIPPENHAM.

Last Sunday WARGRAVE lost 69-50 at home to TILEHURST in a four triples match.
