Bishop’s triple helps side to victory on their travels

Henley’s closest scoring team were Brenda Bishop helped by lead Dilys Smith and Pat Hawes at number two who were equal 13 shots on the 12th end but then saw their opponents score another seven shots resulting in a loss of two.

Janet Thompson’s triple went down to a 19-14 defeat while the triple led by Angelika Crisa with Rosemary Maybury at two also fell halfway as skip Gill Robins had to accept defeat from their opponents, going down 26-13.

PALMER PARK LADIES ran out narrow 56-52 winners at HENLEY LADIES.

The best performing Henley team was that of Janet Thompson, Hilary Beaumont and Di Woodford who won 22-11.

HENLEY LADIES triumphed in their away against HURST.

Brenda Bishop’s triple of Jenny Bower and Rosemary Maybury romped away from end one and never looked back to finish 26-9 winners. With Janet Thompson coming in with a two shot loss and Gill Robins’ team losing by three, Henley won overall 54-42.

SHIPLAKE went down to a 90-74 defeat last Thursday away to SOUTH OXFORD in their Oxford and District match where the villagers picked up just two points to the hosts’ four.

The rink of Barry Lambourne dropped a seven on the penultimate end to lose by six shots. Len Mitton’s rink scored their first shot after six ends and were eventually thrashed by 20 shots.

Trevor Beaumont’s four won comfortably by six shots while Barrie Evans’ rink won by four.

SHIPLAKE ran out winners by 22 shots in their home Manchester Unity League match last Wednesday against HURST. The hosts won on three rinks, drew on one and lost on one as they triumphed 100-78.

Wendy Cross came back from 15-3 down to almost snatch a win on the last end, ending all square.

Daphne Jacob’s triple were runaway winners by 18 shots while Mike Lovejoy was 17-7 down at the 12th but just lost out by one.

Trevor Beaumont struggled until near the end when he scored 11 in five ends to win by two. Barrie Evans scored a six to take the lead for the first time on the last but one end, ending up three to the good.

SHIPLAKE were outplayed on Saturday when they entertained WOKINGHAM in a six triples mixed friendly, losing 114-82, winning on only one rink.

Helen Robinson had a good middle order game, winning on eight ends of the 10 played, ending up eight shots to the good. The other Shiplake skips were Daphne Jacob (-6), Phil Buckett (-7), Wendy Cross (-4), David Steel (-2), Mike Lovejoy (-21).

Thirty bowlers took part in SHIPLAKE’s annual millennium drawn triples on Sunday.

After four rounds of the group stage two triples emerged as clear winners and played each other in the final. Melvyn Stafford, Howard West and skip Daphne Jacob played Marion Pelling, Jackie Stafford and skip Phil Buckett. Buckett, who played well all afternoon, led his triple to an emphatic win 11-1.

WARGRAVE lost out by 85 shots to 80 last Saturday at BROOMWADE in the Chiltern and Thames League. However, with three matches being played in the league and two friendly triples, the visitors triumphed in the league match, taking seven out of 10 points available.

In the Kennet League WARGRAVE lost away to GREAT HOLLANDS where they picked up just two points out of a possible 12.

In their recent five triples away match with SUTTONS, WARGRAVE crashed to a heavy 108-66 defeat.

WARGRAVE won on three out of five rinks at BURNHAM to win the match by 86 shots to 77.

WATLINGTON ran out 69-59 winners at home to UNIVERSITY OF READING last Saturday in a mixed triples and rink friendly match.

The best scoring rink for Watlington was that of J Woolley, B Thomas and skip J Lewis who won 23-11.

On Sunday WATLINGTON ran out 78-59 winners away to HANBOROUGH in a mixed triples friendly match. The best scoring rink for the visitors was that of M Smith, J Trimmer and skip M Saunders who won 27-10.

PEPPARD lost out away to PALMER PARK in a five-triples Manchester Unity League match. The visitors managed to hold their own on three rinks until half-time when the home team went steadily to win on all rinks to secure all 12 league points.

PEPPARD lost away at GORING in a three-rinks Manchester Unity League fixture on Sunday, losing on all rinks and not gaining any League points.
