Peppard go down to local rivals in Plomer Cup clash

Skip Arthur Daniels with Barbara Davies at lead and Malcolm Johnson at two went into an early lead which they increased consistently to finish 21-6 winners.

Jim Woodford led his triple to a comfortable win being 12 shots to the good at the end while Frank Powell’s triple were successful on the last two ends to win a close game.

HENLEY narrowly lost out by 81 shots to 79 at home to FARLEY HILL on Sunday in a five mixed triples friendly.

Skip Jim Woodford’s triple, with Angelika Crisa at lead and Roger Sayer at two, won 23-10, finishing with a flourish scoring six shots on the last end. Skip Len Snelgrove’s triple followed suit with a 17-11 win.

HENLEY MEN lost out in a four triples friendly at MAIDENHEAD TOWN by 73 shots to 68.

The visitors’ two winning rinks were not quite enough to offset those of their opponents.

Skip Arthur Daniels’ triple had a convincing 25-9 win while David Silvester kept his triple nip and tuck all the way and winning on the last end.

Barrie Davies’ triple played catch up only to be thwarted by their opponent’s resurgence while Frank Powell’s triple lost out heavily.

SHIPLAKE shared the points 3-3 with PANGBOURNE in last Wednesday’s Manchester Unity League game despite losing on three of the five rinks. Both Graham Kennedy and Jim Bland had runaway victories by 19 and 16 respectively. Wendy Cross hadn’t scored a shot until the eighth end and went down by eight.

Daphne Jacob was 10 up at the sixth but then fell away to lose by five. Howard West’s triple struggled all evening, eventually losing by seven.

SHIPLAKE went down to an 81-73 defeat at KIDLINGTON in Division 2 of the Oxford and District League where the hosts secured five points to the visitors’ one.

The rink skipped by Jim Bland struggled from the outset, and were soon well down, and despite a semblance of a fight back eventually lost by 10 shots. Trevor Beaumont’s four were neck-and-neck for most of the evening, but five shots against on the 17th end turned the tie in Kidlington’s favour.

Barrie Evans’ rink were behind for most of their tie before briefly taking the lead on the 16th, but they failed to hold on to it and went down by eight. The only winning rink was that of Barry Lambourne, whose rink dominated the home team from start to finish, and won comfortably by 15.

SHIPLAKE lost out at TWYFORD on Saturday in a six triples mixed friendly by seven shots, winning on only two rinks.

Iain Robinson skipped his triple to a one shot victory despite losing the last three ends. The other winning skip for the visitors was David Bullock who won by six.

Mike Lovejoy was 17-6 up at the 13th but never scored another shot to go down by three. The other skips for the visitors were Howard West (-4), Roger Pitcher (-4) and Helen Robinson (-4).

SHIPLAKE ran out winners at home to UNIVERSITY OF READING on Sunday in a Manchester Unity League game with the hosts winning three of the five games by 10 shots and eight points to four.

Barrie Evans’ triple were the highest winning triple for the home side, winning by 14. Daphne Jacob and Graham Kennedy both won by six. The other skips for the villagers were Matt Shepherd and Wendy Cross.

PEPPARD lost at BURGHFIELD last Saturday in a five triples Manchester Unity League match. The visitors picked up two league points for one winning rink, skipped by David Jennings.
